Denim's Designs of the Future

Avery Dennison RBIS announces winners of ISKO I-SKOOL™ Denim Design Awards 2016

Over 50,000 students from 12 schools across Europe, the UK, U.S. and Asia took part in the third annual ISKO I-SKOOL Denim Design Awards last week. As part of our commitment to support emerging designers and discover students’ creativity and ingenuity, Avery Dennison RBIS joined forces with ISKO, a premium denim mill, to offer two students the opportunity to win an internship based on their branding award entries. And for the first time, the importance of branding and communication of the brand story was emphasized.

Announced at an exclusive event at the Villa Corner Della Egina, in Veneto, Italy, on Friday, July 15, we are thrilled to award Farah Sherif Wali from Polimoda University with the Avery Dennison RBIS Branding Design Award, and Travis A. Rice from AMFI, Amsterdam Fashion Institute, with the Denim Marketing Award.

"It was great to see the concepts and designs of students from some of the best design schools in the world."

Good branding communicates the essence of a brand story and it has been truly insightful to learn these stories through the students' work," commented Amy White, vice president, Marketing, Communications and Sustainability, RBIS.

Winner of the Avery Dennison RBIS Award

Farah Sherif Wali, Polimoda International Institute of Fashion Design and Marketing, The Path to Divinity

Farah showed attention to detail through her research into all elements of branding, using products produced by Avery Dennison RBIS, from the hangtag to the back patch to the packaging. This resulted in a stand-out and well developed use of color and logos, truly reflecting her own personal story of past, present and future. Judges favored her design ability across a broad range of branding materials, as Farah explored a number of different mediums within her designs, creating a bold aesthetic coupled with a strong brand story.

Winner of the Avery Dennison RBIS  Award for Marketing, Athleisure

Travis A. Rice, AMFI Amsterdam Fashion Institute, Roughhousing

Travis demonstrated a strong brand ethos that flowed through into an entire strategic marketing plan. With a clear understanding of the Gen Z audience, and their interaction with the digital world, the result was hard-hitting and original, offering an alternative approach to the athleisure genre.

Along with the industry recognition, our winners will participate in an internship, giving them the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of branding design and manufacturing for denim brands globally.

The judging panel consisted of global brands including Mavi, Ralph Lauren, Swarovski and more. Our own Hannah White, global senior manager, Marketing Communications, Apparel and RFID, was also on the panel.
